Amazon Settlement Transaction Types

There are 3 basic transaction types found in your settlement files. They are “Orders”, “Refunds & Adjustments”, and “Other Transactions & Charges.”

Orders are fairly straightforward in that all transactions in this category are payments for merchant fulfilled and FBA orders.

Refunds & Adjustments are a little more ambiguous. Generally these transactions are related to adjustments made to orders, but not all adjustments have an order ID nor do all adjustments have an adjustment ID.

So how do we know if the transaction is really an adjustment or does it belong with the other transactions & charges? If the transaction type is “Refund” or “Adjustment”, it is clear the transaction is an adjustment; however, when the transaction type is “Other-Transaction” we look to see if there is either an Adjustment ID or an Order ID. If either is present then the transaction is classified as an Adjustment.

This brings us to the last transaction type “Other Transactions & Charges”. These types of transactions are the most ambiguous since they are literally charges for anything else not related to orders or adjustments. Any transaction which does not meet our criteria for orders and adjustments will be assigned to other transactions & charges.
