The Settlement Data Feed and Multi-File dialogs feature an “Add Missing Orders” option which is toggled on by default. This option when toggled on will automatically add any orders from the settlement which are missing from the orders section.

At first this may seem like a good idea, but there are some issues you need be aware before using this option. Settlement data is not as complete as order data. Buyer info, shipping address, tax info, etc. is missing from settlements so automatically adding missing orders from the settlement to the orders section will have limited use.

Additionally, the “Add missing orders“ option defeats the purpose of reconciling settlements with orders since you are automatically adding orders from the settlement files then none of those orders will ever be out of balance.

This option was added to the settlement import to solve 2 very specific issues.
In case an occasional order was missing, the settlement import process would add it so your list of orders would be as complete as possible. The order would be flagged as a settlement insert so you could easily identify those orders.
Settlement data is more readily available than order data so there may be instances where you would want to go back in time to older settlements and import those while at the same time add those missing orders.

If you intend on reconciling settlements with orders (we recommend this highly) then be sure to add the all of the relevant orders before importing your settlements and using the “Add missing orders” option.
