Product Replenishment Generation
Global Teck Worldwide (GTW) needed a way to automate their product replenishment and purchasing process. Decision makers were at disparate locations worldwide, so they used Google Sheets for team members to share and collaborate on purchasing decisions.
In order to populate daily product replenishment data for the Google Sheets, they had to generate a series of reports for various purposes, export those reports to Excel spreadsheets, perform additional data processing with Excel then upload those spreadsheets to their corresponding Google Sheets.
This process was labor intensive, time consuming, and error prone. Due to the sheer volume of data, they could not consistently meet production deadlines causing daily disruptions in their procurement process.
GTW believed the current process was unsustainable and needed a way to automate it so reports could be automatically generated and uploaded to Google Sheets without the need for any human intervention.
To Achieve this objective, GTW engaged our services to create and develop a means to automate their product replenishment and purchasing process in an accurate and timely manner that would update their Google Sheets twice a day (spoiler alert: the automation was so successful GTW eventually changed from twice a day to every hour).
They went from a chaotic day long process for a single update to their Google Sheets to an automated process updating their Google Sheets every hour. What took a whole day to do manually now takes literally a few minutes to complete. They were able to improve their efficiency and effectiveness automating their product replenishment process.
Project Particulars:
Looking at the Google Sheets image belies the complexity involved in generating those sheets.
It all begins with the Synchronizer automatically generating 2 separate product replenishments reports from Marketplace Reporting at the designated time. Each report having specific select criteria and data elements. Once the reports are generated locally, the data from both reports are uploaded to their respective Google Sheet using their REST API and JSON data format.
From GTW’s perspective it is now a simple process of logging into their Google Sheets and performing their daily product replenishment tasks. They no longer give any thought to how or when. It’s always there and up to date on the hour every hour.
The Google Sheets project for GTW demonstrates the whole point of business process automation. Take a complicated, labor-intensive, time-consuming process that takes your staff a day to do and automate it, so those same processes are done in minutes. Automation frees your staff to do more important things for your business, and let your computer do what is does best which is processing data.
